As of Saturday, February 5, 2022, Abhijeet and Sansrati are the first wedded couple in India to wed in a 3D Metaverse. The nuptials were held on Yug Metaverse (made in India metaverse platform). The media company Wavemaker India conceptualised, planned, and carried out the association on behalf of ITC Ltd. and Matrimony.com.

How the wedding took place

The ceremony was hosted by the couple’s digital avatars at a picturesque beachside location, and the guests participated virtually as well. The marriage took place on February 5, 2022, from 8 to 9 p.m., coinciding with the actual ceremony, which was conducted in Bhopal.
Dr. Sansrati from Bhopal and IT entrepreneur Abhijeet Goel first connected online via a matrimonial service. They made the decision to get married but wanted their friends and family to attend from all around the world to, so they considered getting married online so that everyone could attend without jeopardising the safety of their visitors.

The wedding organization

The founder of Yug Metaverse, Utkarsh Shukla, explains that the Metaverse is a novel idea whose global adoption is still in its infancy. We created a Metaverse Platform called YUG in India because we wanted that country to take the lead and be at the forefront of this technological revolution. The team is eager to investigate the future possibilities made possible by emerging technologies like blockchain, bitcoin, and the metaverse.

In order to create collaborations with ITC Ltd. and Matrimony.com for this first-ever 3D wedding on the Metaverse platform, Wavemaker, a division of GroupM, was crucial.

Ajay Gupte, CEO of Wavemaker for South Asia, stated that marketing on the Metaverse platform is the upcoming trend in digital marketing when speaking about this industry-first event. At Wavemaker, our mission has always been to provoke our clients in a good way while producing ground-breaking, unique work for our client’s businesses. In order to better assist our clients in navigating this field and determining how best to partner with metaverse events, we have assembled an internal team of experts. The Metaverse is still in its infancy and provides us with a tremendous opportunity to mould the platform into which we firmly believe. The consumer experience is headed in this direction, and we are all eager to ride it.

Arjun Bhatia, Chief Marketing Officer at Matrimony.com, commented on the 3D wedding, saying, “Over the last 22 years, Matrimony.com has been at the forefront of providing rich and transformative experiences for customers in the real world through constant innovation. We are
thrilled to be working together on a virtual world wedding experiment that offers up a wealth of interaction and immersion opportunities at YUG metaverse.

A type of virtual world called the metaverse allows users to access the internet using a virtual identity. People can hang out, shop, and meet friends in this virtual setting.
